Bob Edwards

Letter to National Public Radio

Ruth Parson
March 27, 2004
It's Saturday morning and I am hearing the news that Bob Edwards has been relieved of his duties. I must tell you that this is a mistake on your part.

You are apparently unaware of the important part he is in millions of people's morning. Bob Edwards gives me a sense of safety, no matter what may be happening in the world around me, including my experience of 9/11/01 from my home eight blocks away. You must believe he is not depended on or needed by listeners. You are wrong. When he has been missing, I feel a loss of place. It is difficult to imagine that I will not search elsewhere for the comfort he has provided. So yes, I am feeling sorry for myself, but worse is an extreme sadness and sense of harm I feel on hearing Bob Edwards search himself for what he has done wrong.

Corporations seldom listen to customers nor do the people who make choices like this think twice about their decisions. I encourage you to think again about your audience and reconsider this move regarding Bob Edwards.

With hope,

Ruth Parson
