Bob Clic from The Lewd wrote - ...I was at the "legendary" Misfits riot at the Elite Club. Well, actually I was at almost ALL the "legendary" shows, from the Dead Boys at the Mab in 78 till I left the Lewd in 82. Saw the Circle Jerks invade SF, too...
p0ps - Re: Circle Jerk's invasion of SF at the Mab in '80 (?) - You are only the second person I've heard from who was there... Bob Clic - I don't remember much about it, but I was there. I stayed out of the pit almost always. It (their set) was very short at the Mab that night, and they played the day before or after at the Savoy Tivoli. p0ps - After a few months of being banned from San Francisco, the Jerk's second coming in SF was, a Rat Production at 10th St. Hall. DOA was announced, they brought CJs on unannounced. A way-wild pit - there was a guy with his arm in a cast who used it like a weapon, as I remember. Bob Clic - I was at that also, we (the Lewd house) lived a block away. p0ps - What interests me, is in the way that the irony inherent in Punk Rock was lost on the skinhead-hardcore guys of the '80's, the way they took things so seriously, instigating actual violence, developing intolerant philosophies, reflecting the country's turn to the Right, perhaps... If you can shed any light on that or other themes, please do so. Bob Clic - Oh man, I sure can't shed any light on it, but it's why I quit The Lewd and why I never gave a shit about hardcore punk after that. I blame Black Flag, they get credit for boosting their crowds by flyering (?) at soca high schools. They should get credit for getting every psycho bone headed musclebound bruiser that wanted to hurt people into punk rock. A pox on them all. - Bob Clicthelewd.com rubbercityrebels.com |
